How We Began...

Comedy Tonight Productions was founded in 1996 by Gabriel Vega and
Rebecca Hanes, and from its inception, specialized in the works of Gilbert &
Sullivan. It has produced a dozen shows, four of them from the cannon of
G&S. We are bringing the works of G&S, and more, to the county once again.

Mr. Vega brings over 19 years of stage work and 40 years of choral
experience with him, previously producing, staging, and appearing as
pompous Poohbah in
The Mikado, The silly Sargeant of Police in the Pirates
of Penzance
, darkly delightful Dick Deadeye in H.M.S Pinafore, and the
dastardly Sir Despard in
Ruddigore with Comedy Tonight Productions.

His work with the Moorpark College Opera Workshop program was seen in
productions of Gilbert & Sullivans'
Princess Ida and The Gondoliers as well
as leading roles in
Desert Song, The Merry Widow, and Die Fledermaus, all
under the direction of director Marilyn Anderson.

He has appeared throughout the county as Tevye from
Fiddler on the Roof in
Ojai and Ventura, as well as being the first Tevye at the Simi Valley Cultural
Arts Center. Other favorites include The Duke in the Conejo Players
production of
Big River, Nicely in Guys and Dolls, Jud in Oklahoma!, Teddy in
Arsenic and Old Lace, The Govenor in Man of La Mancha, and Pseudelous
in
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

He is also writing a satirical piece based on The Mikado about a group of
wealthy Somis landowners called The Avocado. Mr. Vega, who appears with
the Gypsies in the Trunk 'fairy tales in the park' program, also directed and
wrote his first work for that troupe this past summer, a wild, wild western
version of Peter Pan.

Mr. Vega runs an event management company called Avalon Conventions
with many of his good friends. In his spare time, he occasionally runs a
teeny tiny game store in Camarillo called Name of the Game.

He has two lovely cats, an nine year old seal point Himalayan named Zorak,
and a seventeen year old Jellicle cat named Plume.
